August 2022

Our prayers matter. The LORD encourages us through all the examples of faithful saints through scripture. Through James, the Lord informs us that the prayers of a righteous person are powerful and effective (James 5:16). Jesus refers to this through the" Parable of the Persistent Widow," (Luke 18:1-8), a lesson that gives many of us hope and encouragement as we sometimes wonder if it's okay to keep bringing the same request before the Throne.

Let us take heart as we approach God's Throne of Grace (Hebrews 4:16) with our prayers and petitions, knowing that the God of Mercy and Grace wants to hear from us even in our "smallest" prayer and include us in His Mighty Work.

Laboring Beside You,

Lori

"The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God's people, went up before God."

Revelation 8:4

UPDATES:

The process has begun to close the Groton Camp officially...Everyone from that site has found housing through the profound efforts of a network of social workers and the encouragement and more from MALTA, except Miss K____ who refuses to engage. The good news is she has family within a mile away and qualifies easily for housing and many services. PEASE PRAY - really PRAY for a breakthrough with K___ that she peaceably agrees to what is being offered her and that the closure process goes smoothly. It is Town property and Town is reclaiming that property as part of Birch Plain. We are happy to see the site be eliminated as a viable option for people when there is so much out there to help people avoid homelessness as an alternative. The lifestyle at a site such as this and others promotes and includes deterioration of physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual health of individuals. This can be avoided as bridge organizations like MALTA partner with social service organizations, police and town officials, and churches and work cooperatively with at risk individuals and families.

We are hosting a breakfast ministry in Pawcatuck on Tuesday mornings.

MALTA welcomes two new members of our Board of Directors: Randy Wood, a deacon at Groton Heights Baptist Church who has been a faithful MALTA volunteer for nearly 20 years, and Scott Hull, a deacon at Grace Evangelical Free Church in North Stonington, who actually was a founding member of the MALTA team back in1999! Both men bring such faith, love and experience to the table.

We have a NEW PRESIDENT of the Board of Directors, Mary Young. Mary also is a founding MALTA volunteer and brings some of the same attributes to the table. She is already making a difference even in the life of one very hurting individual's life and was part of a breakthrough there in North Stonington/Pawcatuck.

PLEASE PRAY FOR MARY, RANDY & SCOTT, as well as all of our Board of Directors and other leadership!
